Comment
Regulation (EC) No 593/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the law
applicable to contractual obligations (Rome I) was adopted on 17 June 2008 in Strasbourg.
In accordance with article 24 and article 29, the Regulation replaces the present
Convention in the Member States as of 17 December 2009, except in respect of the territories
of the Member States which fall within the territorial scope of that Convention and
to which this Regulation does not apply in accordance with article 355 (new) of the
Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. As far as the Kingdom of the Netherlands
is concerned, the Convention has been terminated for the Netherlands (the European
part) on 17 December 2009. The Convention remains applicable to the Netherlands (the
Caribbean Part), Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
