The Argentine Republic states that the Malvinas, South Georgia and the South Sandwich
Islands and the surrounding maritime spaces are an integral part of its territory,
and since such archipelagos are illegally occupied by the United Kingdom of Great
Britain and Northern Island, they are the subject of a sovereignty dispute recognised
by the international community.
Along these lines, the General Assembly adopted resolutions 2065 (XX), 3169 (XXVIII),
31/49, 37/9, 38/12, 39/6, 40/21, 41/40, 42/19 and 43/25, in which it recognises the
existence of a sovereignty dispute surrounding the "Question of the Falkland Islands
(Malvinas)" and encourages the Governments of the Argentine Republic and the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island to resume negotiations in order to find
a peaceful, just and lasting solution to the dispute as soon as possible. The United
Nations Special Committee on Decolonization has also repeatedly made statements along
the same lines.
The Argentine Republic reaffirms its sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgia
and the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime spaces.
